Achieving Peace of Heart

By Narciso Irala, S.J., Translated by Lewis Delmage, S.J.

Imprimatur, 1954, 189 page book.

All of us at one time or another experience what - in the jargon of psychologist - are called “personality maladjustments.” These may be and usually are minor mental disturbances of one kind or another - doubt, worry, feat, and so forth - which, while not always requiring the specialized (and expensive) services of a psychiatrist, need very much to be corrected and avoided. To this end we need a practical handbook or manual that will outline an effective method of procedure. This book will more than adequately fulfill that need.

However, Father Irala never intended this book as a panacea for all mental ills of whatever kind or degree. He does not pretend that the serious complications of a neurosis or psychosis admit of any facile solution to be found in the pages of this or any other manual. Special disorders must continue to require the attention of the specialist. But the ordinary, everyday problems of inefficiency, mental wandering, worry, overwork, insomnia, and loss of self-control, these he feels may be treated and an effective cure found for them in the manner here indicated.
