"To the Thorn-Crowned Christ

Dear Lord, I’ve crowned Thee
with these thorns,
That pierced Thy Sacred Head,
I did it when I sinned ‘gainst Thee –When from Thy law I fled.

I placed them there and pressed them down,
And never heard Thee cry
Of pain. For I preferred to Thee
My sin - then let Thee die.

I know how sharp and strong
they were,
Yet ne’er did I delay
My sin, so foul, I must commit,
Then, from Thee ran away.

Thy eyes besought me to be true,
And not to Satan go.
I foolish turned my back on Thee,
Ah! Deep now is my woe.

Dear Christ, I’m sorry now for all,
And if Thou wilt forgive,
My love to Thee Alone I’ll vow,
As long as I shall live.
